Little Falls summer golf season.

Senior Thursday morning golf for those 50+ yearsold.

14 golfers toured the course Playing Scramble golf, each player had to use 2 of thier drive on the front nine and the back nine, all played from the red tees.

Jerry Cripps team of Dave Warren, Scottie Russell and Vern Herbert toured the course in 74 strokes good for a tie for first place.

Jean Lambert’s team also shot a 74 to share the weekly honors, Franco Calvelli, Ed Kennedy and Richard Lampi made up this team.

Wayne Thomas, Brent Johnson and Brian McCallum made up team three and the put up a score of 83 to take second place.

Ray Laquerre along with Ray Carlson and Allen Bruyerre took a total of 86 stroked to get around the course.

The course was damp so there was very little roll of the ball when it hit the ground, the greens showed some winter kill but for the most part were in good shape

A foggy morning greeted the LaCopa seniors mixed golf group as they assembled
at the golf course at Cottonwood country Club, for their regular Friday golf.
The weather was foggy and a bit of misty rain was falling at the ten o’clock tee time.

It Did not seem to bother the golfers much and the headed out onto the fairways.

The fairways and the greens are also in great shape and the greens are fast.

Twenty golfers took part and were looking forward to the days chalanges even thought a misty rain was falling,
it only lasted about 15 minutes.

the scores refected the conditions and were a bit above the average scores of the golfers.

from the luck of the draw, the red team turned in the lowest combined score of 146 and took the bragging wrights for the day.
Duane Miller shot a 37, Dan Lunnesman 34, Richard Recker 42 and Richard Lampi a 33.

Doug Mazur shot a 39, Keith Bess had the lowest round of the day with a 31 and a birdie on #3, Harry LaCore turned in a 39 and Jim Williams a 46.
The pink team score was 155, good for second place.

The Blue teams total was 156 for the day. Teresa Williams shot a 42, Gary Millar scored a 37 (matched his father’s 37) Jerry Pape turned in a 38 and Joyce Foy shot a 39 with a birdie on her first hole.

The foursome of David Andrews 41, Jo LaCore 40, Bev Gaudagnollo 41 and Sandra Olson 37, made up the Green Team, their total strokes for the day was 159.

The White team led by Tony Gaudagnollo who shot a 34 with a birdie on # 7, Merv Andrews, who had trouble adjusting to the short holes and had to chip back from behind the greens, shot a 38.


Nancy Ruhlow carded a 46 and Tracy Andrews scored a 45 to round out a team score of 163 for the day.

Tony Gaudagnollo and his Wife Bev along with Richard Lampi made up the red team and teed off first at the Cottonwood golf course. the temperature was a nice pleasant 65 degree’s with partly sunny skies.

the players played regular golf, and to see who had the bragging rights for the week the total score from each team was used.

Tony shot a 40, Bev shot a 41 and Richard a 34 for a total of 115 strokes to get around the course, that was good for 3rd place.

The yellow team of Doug Mazur with a 40, Harry La Core shot a 37 and Keith Bess turned in a 35 for a team total of 112 strokes. that was good enough to take second place.

Dan Lunnesman took 34 stokes to make it around the course, Jo La Core turned in a 37 and Duane Miller scored a 37 and that added up to 108 strokes for the green team and the best score of the day.

even the nice weather and the happy attitude of the players did not produce a birdie on the day, but there was a hint of a golf club sailing through the air.

Russ Desserre takes Kitchen Creek Senior Open after a 5 hole playoff.

The Rain delayed the start of Seniors open by  1 hour , after a storm soaked the course early Tuesday morning.

Some 70 golfers waited as the storm blew by, then the day turned nice for the rest of the day.

Gerry Hercum, Larry Beck and Russ all finished with score of 75.

 

Russ prevailed on the 5th extra hole and won the kitchen creek seniors open.

La Copa Inn league, mixed seniors golf 2018

the La Copa Inn, Seniors mixed golf league is played every Friday at 10 am tee time.

Play each week at the Cottonwood Country Club, 1001 S. Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen Texas

the first week of play saw only 7 golfers who were in the south to start the season. teams were made up by a draw of colored tees, red and white. only 9 holes are played.

Joyce Foy, Jim Williams and His wife Teresa and Kieth Bess made up team one and each player used their own score. Joyce 37, Jim 45, Teresa 39 and Keith shot a 34.

Team Two were Duane Miller, Dan Luensesman and Richard Lampi. Duane shot a 37 , Dan Matched him with a 37 and Richard turned in a 34, Richard recorded the only birdie on the day on the 95 yard #7.

Next week should see more golfers as they make their way south for the winter.

Atikokan Senior Men’s Open Championship.

The Atikokan Senior Men’s open golf tournament was played on Aug 14th. and was opened with a moment of silence for Peter Barna,
who has been involved in this tournament as a player and organizer .
Atikokan oldest active golfer Max Clement, opened the tournament with a nice drive past the corner on # 1.

Greg Tighe, took the championship flight, to win the 30th annual Seniors Open, with a come from behind score of 75

Kevin Cain took second with a 77 on a count back leaving Don Robertson (77) in third.
After the front nine, Don Robertson had a one stroke lead (36) over Russ Desserre (37) and a three stroke lead over
Kevin Cain (39) and Greg Tighe (39).
The back nine started great for Don, as he tallied an Eagle on # ten, Russ Desserre birdied it and was now two behind Don.
Greg took a 6 which put him 6 behind the leader, Kevin birdied it and was now 4 back.
Then the tides turned and over the next 5 holes Don’s lead was gone and Greg was clear of the field by two strokes and held this to the end, nice comeback Greg.

Tournament organizer Ray Laquerre presented Greg, with the Barney Modeland Memorial Trophy.

Flight one winners were, Franco Calvelli (83), Jerry Cripps (84) and Raymond Roy (92) on a count back.

Flight two winners: Jean Lambert (93 count back), Keith Kiervey (93) and Gordon Hoskins (94).

Flight three winners: Ron Speck (83), Mickey Desserre (93) and Alton Pollard with a (95).
Ron shot his way to a ten stroke lead by the end of his round.

4th Flight winners were: Gary Braun with a 87, Harold Mosley a 91 and Harley Beauregard with a 95.

5th Flight winners: Brian McCallum with a 97, Steve Geddes 103 on a count back and Ed Kennedy 103 on a count back.

6th flight winners: Richard Lampi 94, Scotty Russell 95 and Allen Bruyerre shot a 106.

52 players from across northwestern Ontario to British Columbia, took in the annual event.

Longest Drive: longest drive seniors for 50 to 70 age group, was Todd Bryck.

Barry Anderson had the longest drive of those over 70 .

Most accurate Drive on #7 was Alton Pollard

Closest to the pin on # 6 Keith Kiervy and closest on # 16 was Scotty Russell.

End of season for the la Copa group

With the weather in the 90s and most of the winter Texans gone north, Howard and Dianna were the only ones left to play golf  from the LaCopa group on Friday  march 30th.

They had no problem of being the winning team and will carry the championship colors until the league starts up in December , when the winter Texans start to return.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the end of the LaCopa league golf for the season,  next will be,”what the golfers are doing to pass the time until they can play golf in their own communities.”

On what was the second last Friday for the LaCopa league senior mixed league for this winter season. as most of the golfers will be on their way north by next Friday.

It was hot and brezzy when the golfers hit the course today. Nine golfers made up three teams.

Howard & Dianna  Stewart and Jim Williams  made up team  1 . they turned in a team score of 30. Dianna led this team with a 32 on her round which she capped it off with a birdie on # 9. 

Teresa Williams, Grant Stewart and Bill Stewart also turned in a teamscore of 30 so there was not a clear winner for the week. Grant scored the lowest of the day with a 30. 

Dwayne Miller and his son Todd, along with Gerry Busch turned in a team score of 31 for their days work.
