Senior Men’s open golf tourement at Little Falls golf club

The Senior Men’s open golf tournament was played on Aug 8th. It was opened with a moment of silence for long time tournament organizer, Leo Lamarche who  was involved in this tournament as a player and organizer for 28 years. ( he won this tournament in 1996).

 

Greg Tighe wins the 29th annual Seniors Open with a pair of 38’s and a total score of 76

Greg was presented the Barny Modeland Memorial Trophy, by tournament organizer Ray Laquerre

 

64 players from across northwestern Ontario to Alberta, took in the annual event.

Championship flight winners, Don Robertson 77, Kevin Cain 80, Mel Larson 81 on a count back.

Flight #1 winners Tim Fairburn 77, Jerry Cripps 82, Mark Clark 87 on a count back.

Flight #2 winners Franco Calvelli 82, Brian McCallum jr 85, Jim Kusick 87 on a count back.

Flight #3 winners Jean Lambert 86, Jerry Garber 87, John Krann 94.

Longest Drive: longest drive seniors for 50 to 70 age group, was Russ Desserre.

Alton Pollard had the longest drive of those over 70 .

Shortest Drive, Larry Ogden.

Closest to the pin on the par three holes, all were given a package of steaks donated by Foodland.

2017 Senior men’s club championship at little falls golf club.

Senior men’s club championship 2017 Aug 24th
championship flight:

Tim Fairburn needed a lot of luck on the 18th hole to win his second Seniors club Championship in a row.

Tim finished the tournament with a score of 80, with Mark Clark (who won in 2015) hot on his tail with an 82.

Franco Calvelli took the low net on a count back with a 72, with 2 birdies on the round.

Second Flight:
Jerry Cripps shot a 89 to take low gross in the second flight
Gary Billings took the low net with a 73 with two birdies on the round.

Third Flight:

Lance Beauregard shot a 102 and with that score, took low gross in the third flight.
Allan Bruyerre took the low net with a 79.
A special prize, a statue of an eagle was given to Jean Lambert for the eagle he recorded on hole # 1 during the senior mens open played on Aug 8th. the only Eagle recorded on that day.

Other players who scored birdies were Ray Laquerre on # 1, Mark Clark on # 5 and Mark Labossiere on hole # 14.

Senior men’s club championship at Little Falls Golf Club

2016 senior men’s club championship.

Tim Fairburn wins the Senior men’s club championship with a round of 79, a one stroke victory over last years winner, Mark Clark .
Tim also had the longest drive and closest to the pin on # 11, (31′ 6″).

Other closet to the pin winners were Jean Lambert 18′ 2″ on # 2,
Pete Barna 53″ on hole # 6 and Allan Bruyere 7′ 1″ on # 15

23 Players took part in the club championship.

Flight two winner, Barry Anderson shot a 89 with Ted McLeod taking the low net with a 68, Pete Barna took second low net with a 70.

Brian McLeod won the third flight with a 90. Richard Lampi shot a low net of 66 while Lance Beauregard took the 2nd low net with a 72.

Kevin Cain wins the Atikokan Seniors open Golf Tournament

 

Kevin Cain Wins the Senior Mens Open at Little Falls Golf Course on Aug 9th 2016

Kevin played the front nine in a 38 and improved his score on the back nine with a 37 for a 75 on the day.

He was tied with Greg Tighe with two holes to play, he parred the last two holes while Greg took bogies
on 17 and 18 leaving Kevin with a two-stroke victory.

Larry Ogden took the low net with a 67

70 golfers took part in the tourney and played in nice warm sunny conditions with light winds.

Kevin Was Presented with the Trophy by Ray Laquerre, the tournament chairman.

The rest of the organizing committee, Pete Barna looked after the prizes, Harold Mosley and Richard Lampi helped give them out.

Driftwood Classic Winter Golf Tourament

the players in the driftwood classic from about 2004.

Max Clement has been hosting this event for many years.  The layout is for 18 holes, and depending on the weather it is sometimes shortened to only 9 holes.

the front nine is 1770 yards and the parr is 37.  The back nine is much longer and plays 2403 yards long, the par is the same as the front nine, 37.

Hole # 13 plays 500 yards long and if there is any snow on the ice it is very hard to reach. conditions must  be good to play the 18 holes.

You can walk the course, use a 4 wheeler or a snow machine to get around.

Driftwood open winter classic.

Max Clement’s driftwood winter classic was held on April 3 rd 2016,
This golf tournament has been held for 20 plus years, and is played on the ice in front of Max’s cabin
on Driftwood bay on the floodwaters (Marmion lake Reservoir),north of the Atikokan Hydro Generating Station site.

Some years the ice conditions were very poor and the tournament was not held.

This years classic started with a stop at the White Otter Inn where everyone had a full breakfast
to get them warmed up and mentally prepared to face the minus 12 degree temps and a 15 km wind
that was waiting for them on the Lake.

the snow was falling and there had been about 4 cm on the ice.
Driftwood bay, got its name for all the driftwood and stumps that are present in the bay, this area was flooded in 1926
as a storage area for the hydro dam at the moose lake hydro station

Max, with his three Grandsons, Adam Clement, Max and his twin brother Gregg Fulton, with Ray Laquerre and Richard Lampi rounded out the golfers who braved the weather to participate in this classic.

The game was played one day after Max’s 90th birthday.

Sunday and Monday Golf

February 8th golf

The foursome of Gary Cook, Don Riesberg, Richard Lampi and George Coulson braved the sun and warm temperatures at Cottonwood.

They hoped that the nice weather would show up on the score cards with nice scores.

Gary led the way with 8 Bogeys and a par to score a 35. Not much to write about on Gary’s game , it was up the middle, chip, put, put, and on to the next hole.

Don played the first four holes great but on the 5th hole he had a guest sitting on his shoulder
telling him to hit ball hard to get acrossthe water.
He hit it as hard as he could and was rewarded with a 50 yard drive, just short of the canal, hit his second onto the green,took 3 to get it in the hole, for a 5.
On hole # six, another comment from his guest got him a 30 yarder, resulting in another 5.
From there Don was not listening to his guest any more and finished his round with a 36.

Richard was playing bogey golf until he scored a 5 o # 5. Then on #8 he tried a lob wedge from about 30 yards out,and like Tiger Woods only hit it 10 yards and finished with a 6.

#9 proved no better, his drive went over the green then chip, chip, chip, put, put for a 6 and all the strokes added up to a season high of 41.

George was doing fine until # 5 where his putter failed him and he had a 6, hole # 7 and # 9 he scored 5’s and his total for the day was a 40.

Monday Feb. 9th:

Sid joined Don, George and Richard on a nice warm day that started out with a few clouds then turned into a sunny day.
Everyone played well, and were tied on the score sheet with 31’s after eight holes.

Sid parred the last hole and ended up with a 34 for the round. Don had a bogey on the last hole, his score was a 35.
George and Richard both shot 5’s and ended up with 36 for the round.

La Copa Friday league

Friday golf started out with wind from the north east and the temp a nice 67 degrees.

Fifteen golfers showed up, each person picked a tee from a container to make up the teams.

The red team made up of George Coulson, Ron Simpson, Gerry Busch and Frank, who is new to the group.

The White’s were Keith Bess, Jerry Miller, Gary Cook and Richard Lampi.

Don Reisberg, Joyce Foy and Judy Bess made up the Blue team.

those who picked the orange tees were Doug Mazor, Sid Bina, Bill Stewart and Arther Barnett who made it just in time to tee off.

We played with the dice today.

Each player hits off the tee, then one person of the team would roll the dice to see which drive was going to be used.

On the four man teams each player would be assigned a number from 1 to 4. Play the ball of the player number rolled.

The Five if it was rolled, would be the best shot and if the six was rolled it would be the worst shot.

With the three-man teams each player would have two numbers. roll the dice and hit the ball of the number rolled, good bad or otherwise.

From that point every player hits the ball and the best ball played from there.

Three of the teams claimed to have good luck rolling the dice and one team had the devil on their side today.

The Orange team had the best score (25, two under and 2 Birdies) and can brag for a week.

The Reds a shot 27 with one Birdie , the Whites scored a 29 and the Blues came in with a hefty 34.

Wednesday golf from the La Copa inn

Every wednesday the group of golfers from the La Copa try to get in a round at a different golf coarse, This weeks choice was
Treasure Hills golf club.

The Coarse is well maintained and the general consences of the players was, they would go back and play it again.

the Fairways are wide and hilly with slopes to the sides in some places but allowes the players to let a little of the shaft out.

the greens are big, well maintained and fast, there are slopes and diferent levels which make a keen eye needed when putting.

Hole #1 is 356 yard par 4, straight out from the gold tees which we used today. #2 is a straight hole with water along the left
side and played 420 yard par 5.

#3 is a 110 yard par 3 which plays over the water

#4 is a par 4 with a dog leg to the right and water all along the left side, it is about 190 yards to the dogleg
and the another 160 to the green, the total lenght from the gold is 350 yards.

#5 is a 310 yard par 4 straight hole with a drainage ditch down the right side.
#6 a 320 yarder with a slight dogleg to the left.

#7 is 117 yard long par 3.
#8 is a long par 5, 445 yards, from the gold tees. it has a slight dogleg to the right.

#9 is 310 yard long straight out about 280 yards then a dogleg to the right about 40 yards to the green.

the fairways have trees along them and the sand traps on the coarse are placed to gaurd the greens and some along the faiways.spider at treasue hills

We Had 9 players from the LaCopa Inn so we played 3 one each team. Gerry Busch, Bill Stewart and Arthur Barnett were the first ones out.

Joyce Foy, Nancy Ruhlow and Sid Bina were team two, and bringing up the rear were the #3 team of George Coulson, Don Reisberg and Richard lampi.
The most interesting thing of the Day was the big Spider on the green, (pictured here) on # 4, before it was run over by George’s ball when he chipped it onto the green.

Best Team score was a 41 for team 3, Don, George and Richard,
Team 2, Nancy, Joyce and Sid with a 42.
Team #1 made up of Arthur, Bill and Gerry shot a 43. All very close scores.

Now if you took each players score and picked out the best poker hand this is what you would end up with,
Joyce with a straight, 4,5,6,7,8.
Sid hand would be a pair of 6’s and a pair of 5’s and a 9, if that counts for something.
Nancy would have 4, 7’s.
Bill would have three 8’s and a pair of sevens.
Don, Arthur and Richard would finish with 5 fives
George and Gerry would split the pot with 5 sixes.
I forgot to mention that Sid and Don were the only ones that could get thier score up to a 9.
