Seniors Thursdays June 18

Seniors Thursday: week 3 june 18 2015

This weeks game, every player played every hole and kept his own score. the best score on each hole was recorded and that was used to determine the bragging rights for the day.

Handicaps were used to make up the teams. With 10 golfers out, this made up two teams of three golfers and one team of 4.
teams began play on the first three holes at about 9:10 Am.

The team of Jerry Cripps, Don MacDonald and Jean Lambert teed off on #1.
Larry Meany , Pete Barna and Ray Laquerre teed of on #2
Wayne Thomas, Scotty Russell, George Coulson and Richard Lampi headed to the third tee to start out their round.
It was a tough day on the course as the were no birdies recorded on the day, there were many chances but no one could sink the putt to get one.

Ray Laquerre shot the lowest score with a 80.

Scotty had a great front nine where he shot his best 9 hole score of the year (a 49). his chipping and putting were great all day, making puts from great distances. Nice round Scotty!

The team of Scotty,George, Wayne and Richard turned in 81, good for second.

Jerry, Jean and Don had a 82, for third place.

the Bragging rights for the day was claimed by Ray, Larry and Pete, with a score of 76.

One of the oddities of the day happened on hole # 7, When Pete, Larry and Ray all shot par .
the team of George ,Richard, Scotty and Wayne all parred # 6, It is not often that 4 players will all score the same on any hole.

2015 Seniors golf at Little Falls

Back on the Golf Course 2015
Seniors Thursdays at Little Falls Golf Course.

The turn out for the first week of golf was good with a total of 17 golfers, on a cool cloudy day, with a threat of rain. Some rain did fall but did nothing to deter the golfers.

Most of the golfers were there at 9:00 am, there was some confusion as to the start time, when the notice did not indicate the tee off time. the result was a couple of golfers were a bit late.
the golfers were spit up into 5 teams of three golfers, playing best ball with each golfer having to use their drives 2 times on each nine holes.
Wayne Thomas, Larry Brown and Vern Craven shot a 41 on the front nine , the score on the back nine was a 38 for a combined score of 79.
The second group was made up of Jean Lambert, Scotty Russell and Gerry Ladoceur. They turned in a score of 78. shooting 41 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine.

Team 3 consisted of Harold Mosely , Jerry Cripps and Richard Lampi. Vern Herbert joined this group on the first tee to make up a foursome. Each player had to use two drives each on the front and back nines.
they played the front nine at even par 36 and grew to a 38 on the back nine for a total of 74, good for 3rd place. Allan Bruyere joined this group for the back nine and Vern Herbert moved to the eventual winning team .

The fourth team of Ray Lacquere, Brian McCallum and Steve Splawski turned in a 37 on the front and a 36 on the back and took second place with a 73.

The winners of the day were Franko Cavelli, Pete Barna and Leo Lamarche.
They played the first nine with a 38 and burned up the course with a 34 on the back nine.
They had 4 birdies for the day.

The Format for next week, June 4th , will be roll the dice.
Tee off at 9:00 AM Sharp

Temperate Zone Golf

golf in the temperate zone ( This is the zone we are in, the temperature can be 32°F (0°C) and 85° F, (32° C) in the afternoon).
today is May 12th and we had 2″ of snow on the ground this morning. This is not good if you are playing with white balls, and men don’t generally carry around coloured ones in their golf bags.
Just to bring everyone up to date , Little Falls Golf Course opened to pull carts on May 4th and to golf carts on Wednesday, May 6th.
George Coulson, Bob Thorson and I played on Saturday. The scores were not real good for Richard and Bob.
The weather was pleasant, not what you would call warm, but not cold.
The ball did not carry very well but everyone who was out, enjoyed just being on the course.
The Greens are in better shape this year than they were last year. Most of the greens were covered for the winter and survived very well.
George hit the ball well and had a good round, He is using a short putter this year and it is working for him.
This is not one of our shots but it is close.

the last day of friday golf for the LaCopa Friday League.
Here is the Report From Joyce Foy, for Friday March 27th.
IMG_0005
Just thought I’d send u the results of today’s game…..
The 3 women (Joyce, Dianna & Gerry) challenged the men
(Sid, Howard & Bill) for best team score.
Individual scores were, Joyce Foy 34, Dianna Stewart 36, and Gerry Busch 37.

Guess what….the women were the victorious with a team score of 31, and
the men had a 32. It’s evident they ran into some difficulty
without the women to cheer them on!!
Sid Bina a 36, Bill Stewart with a 38,and Howard Stewart with a 43.

The mosquitos have been out in full force this past week, and they specially l o v e Sid.
He is covered in bites from several days ago, and was attacked with a vengeance today . – He came off the coarse with blood on arms, legs, and clothing……..No wonder he was “itchy” on the way back to The LaCopa Inn.

Howard took several photos .
There are 6 of us leaving in the morning of March 28th, The Cook’s , Gary and Helen.
Dianna & Howard Stewart, Sid Bina and Joyce Foy.
Gerry & Bill leave Sunday, as does Tracey & Marge Andrews.
Anne flies out April 1st…….and that’s it for another season.

Sid made a deposit in the trash bin, his golf clubs that he used this year.
He has a set at home he will bring back next winter.

Just a note I will be posting more pictures here as time goes by, and you also will be able to follow the crew from Atikokan, from Little Falls Golf Club.

Wiew from the north

sauna in the north

While I am basking in the sun and spring like weather in the north, the LaCopa group golfers are enjoying
the nice hot weather that we all go to Texas for.
They are playing golf and I am still cleaning up the snow.

The teams for todays golf were put together by picking tees,
this works well as you never know who you are going to golf with on any given day.

Sid Bina, Gerry Busch, Tracy Andrews and Keith Bess made up the red team and they did well,
taking the honors for the week with a team score of 30.

Sid Shot a 35, Gerry a 39, Tracy ( just started golfing lately) a 48 and Keith, the low score of the days golf.

The White Team, of Joyce Foy, Dianna Steward and her mate Howard along with Bill Stewart,
took second place in the team score with a 32.

Bill shot a 42 on the day ( his Winnipeg Jets won last night and he must have been excited).
Howard shot bogey golf with a 36, Dianna turned in a 40 and Joyce shot a 38.

Thanks to Joyce for keeping me up to date so I can pass on the trials and tribulations of the golfing world.
Gary Cook and Judy Bess, who are part of the group did not golf today.

George and Betty Coulson are on their way north, with a few side trips on the way. They will find the snow is still here when the arrive home.

Cottonwood Friday Seniors Golf

march 13th
2015
cottonwood march 13 2015
Friday the 13th is a day which some people think is bad luck, the golfers from the LaCopa
did not seem to have much bad luck.

Eleven golfers took part in the regular League play this morning with a nice pleasant day.
This is in sharp contrast to the cool wet weather, we have had over the last couple of weeks.

The Red team had Dianna, Arthur and Sid. Since there were only three players, one player had and extra shot on each hole.
Dianna had her extra shot on holes numbers 1, 4 and 7, on those 3 holes she shot, 3, 4 and 3, One over par for those holes.
Sid had holes 3, 6 and 9, his total for those three holes was 9, even par on the mid length holes.
Arthur chose the longest holes, # 2, 5 and 8. on those holes of choice, he was 2 over with 11 strokes.
Arther’s score for the day was 34, Sid had a 31, the best round of the day, (just missing the magic 30). Diana’s total for the round was a 38.
The team score was even par 27, and bragging rights for the week.

The White team made up of Howard, Joyce, Gerry and Richard.
Gerry had a great round of 35, and on the way had a birdie on # 7.
Joyce could not buy a par on the day and turned in a 39.
Howard shot a 41, his chipper was not working well today. Richard Had 3 five’s on his round of 35.

Their team score was an even 30.

The Blue team of Tracy, George, Bill and Keith Turned in team score of 31,
George had three fives’ and two pars on his card with some four’s for a 36 on the day.
Tracy is a newcomer to golf and seems to like 6’s and 5’s , his total was forty something. :))
Bill is fonder if 5’s, with seven of them. They added up to a 43.
Keith’s score at the end of the day was 35. he had a bit of trouble on # 5 and 6 which did not help his score

The Blue’s team score totaled 31.

As we are at or near the end of the LaCopa group golf for the year,
it has been great fun to write about some of the highs and lows that we have shared this year.

I will be posting some more pictures to this site so come on back and check it out from time to time.

The Chase for a 30 at Cottonwood golf course

March 7th Cottonwood

The Cottonwood Golf Course which is a 9 hole par 27 layout. If you are playing from the White tees,
you are looking at total yardage of 1245 yards. The holes range from 95 to 200 yards in length.
From the red tees it is 1060 yards, with the longest hole measuring 160 yards and the shortest is 85 yards.

The quest for the rest of the time we have here, is to try and shoot a 30 or better.

Today Richard had a run for a 30 as he was at 23 after 7 holes then took a 5 on #8 and a 4 on #9 for a 32.

George only had one 5 on his card, turning in a 34, for a nice solid round.

Sid had a bit of trouble with his chipping and took 5’s on l#7,8,and nine to finish with a 38.

Joyce Started out with a par on #1, then had 4’s and 5’s on the remainder of her round for a total of 41.
Putting on some of the greens is difficult as some are a bit rough.

March 6th Cottonwood

March 6th cottonwood

Only three golfers from the LaCopa group showed up for the 10 am tee time this week.

Some are down with the bad cold that is going around.

Ron Simpson was busy packing up for his trip back to Saskatchewan, to see where the cold has been coming from.
Bill and Nancy Ruhlow are all packed and ready to go back to Iowa,
Bill has been a bit under the weather and has missed the last few weeks of golf.
Joyce had some baking to do, it was not a pleasant day so she stayed home.
With the temperature at 50 degrees and the wind from the north, no sun in sight, George, Richard and Sid headed out.

George had trouble with his putter today and his favourite hole #5 gave him, his only par on the day and he finished with a 39.

Richard shot bogey golf to the fifth hole, on #6 he hit into the water then chipped in from of the green and took a bogy there.
His luck run out on #8 when he hit the ball to the far right into the water, took a six on that hole, finishing with a 36 on the round.

Sid Has been chasing that elusive 30 the last few weeks and this day left him one shot off that score.
In spite of some great putting and a birdie on # 7, he turned in a another 31.

Great Round Sid.

Mixed Seniors at Treasure hills

March 4th 2015

Treasure hills had a reprieve from an onslot of golfers from the LaCopa as only 4 golfers came.

We measured the distance around the front nine we normally play, it turned out to be 2.98 miles,
riding the cart and staying on the cart path most of the way.

We have never seen a person with a pull cart on the course, the distance would be a healthy walk for nine holes.
I think 18 holes would be a tough round of golf.

When Joyce, Sid and I arrived Arthur was already on the Driving range hitting a bucket of balls.

The weather was a pleasant 70 degree or so and everyone played steady golf .
No one had monster scores on any hole as we have been having the last few weeks.

Joyce shot her best round (55) at treasure hills today. this is a long course even from the forward tees.

Richard stayed in the fairway most of the time and ended with a 48.

Sid shot a 47 with six 5’s on the round after a seven on the second hole, which is a par five.

Arther had the best round of the day with a 45 which did not please him to much, He has parred the front nine in the past.

Hopefully next week we will have all of the remaining golfers heathy and ready to play.

Foggy, misty morning

March 4th. Cottonwood

With Time running short for some golfers, Three of the hardy golfers left the warm confines of the LaCopa Inn, to chalange the elements to play golf.

The day started out as foggy and some light drizzle, and as the round continued the weather improved to a nice day for golf.

Sid, Richard, George and Arthur, Teed of at 10 AM at Cottonwood. There were very few other golfers on the course.

Richard Played steady golf with a 5 on the second hole and bogey golf with a Trio of pars to finish with a 34.

Arther shot a 32 paring 5 holes and had 3 bogies and one double bogey on his round.

George had trouble finding pars today and his chipper was not co-operating so he turned in a 38 on the day.

Sid played the first seven holes with 5 pars and 2 bogies, his score was 23 at that point. He had visions of scoring, that elusive under 30 score.

On # 8 his drive hit the pond and his dream of a sub 30 round was stating to fade,
he finished the hole with a 6, to bring his score to 29.

Walking up to the ninth tee he said all he needed to do is get a hole in one,
but his tee shot went left and when he was finished he had a five, and a 34 on the round.
