La Copa Friday league

la Copa friday league jan 30th

Friday golf started out with wind from the north east and the temp a nice 67 degrees.

Fifteen golfers showed up, each person picked a tee from a container to make up the teams.

The red team made up of George Coulson, Ron Simpson, Gerry Busch and Frank, who is new to the group.

The White’s were Keith Bess, Jerry Miller, Gary Cook and Richard Lampi.

Don Reisberg, Joyce Foy and Judy Bess made up the Blue team.

those who picked the orange tees were Doug Mazor, Sid Bina, Bill Stewart and Arther Barnett who made it just in time to tee off.

We played with the dice today.

Each player hits off the tee, then one person of the team would roll the dice to see which drive was going to be used.
lacopa jan 30 15

On the four man teams each player would be assigned a number from 1 to 4. Play the ball of the player number rolled.

The Five if it was rolled, would be the best shot and if the six was rolled it would be the worst shot.

With the three-man teams each player would have two numbers. roll the dice and hit the ball of the number rolled, good bad or otherwise.

From that point every player hits the ball and the best ball played from there.

Three of the teams claimed to have good luck rolling the dice and one team had the devil on their side today.

The Orange team had the best score (25, two under and 2 Birdies) and can brag for a week.

The Reds a shot 27 with one Birdie , the Whites scored a 29 and the Blues came in with a hefty 34.

Treasure Hills the second time around

The second time playing at treasure hills golf course made most of the La Copa golfers happy, as the scores from last week were lower for most of the golfers. ( sorry Sid).

I think Arthur Barnett was the happiest this week, he improved his score from a 44 last week to an even par 36, this week.
He had a Boggy on the first, a Birdie on #2 and parred the remaining 7 holes. Great round Arthur.

I matched my score from last week with a 47 but hit my favourite ball into the jungle on # 8 and lost it.

Nancy and Bill shaved their scores by 6 and 4 strokes, Joyce and Gerry took a couple of strokes off their scores.

Sid had trouble off of the tees and struggled to a 56 so he was on the other side of Art’s happiness.

Bill was the most consistent with seven 6’s and two 7’s.

The foursome of Joyce, Bill, Richard and Art won the bragging rights for the day with an average score of 48.
Nancy, Sid and Gerry averaged 55.

Fairways are hard, sand traps are firm and the greens fast, just right for Senior golf and the rough is tough to get out of.

Morning Golf

Morning golf at cottonwood on Jan. 26th and 27th.

The last two days we have had real nice weather, with very little wind for our morning golf at Cottonwood.

We generally go out around 10 am. There are other groups of golfers who belong to other leagues
from some of the R.V parks in the area. They have tee times earlier and are finished by ten in the morning.

Our golf has been steady for the last few days. Don has been the most consistent the last two days with scores of 33 and 34.

Sid had a 34 today despite being wild off of the tee, he was good with chipping and putting.
George shot a 35 yesterday but had bad luck on the greens today, lipping out on 4 holes and ending up with a 40.

The water canal claimed a ball from George and a ball from Sid on hole # 5.

The only highlite for Richard was a birdie on # 2 as he shot a 38 yesterday and a 35 today.

Other golfers from the La Copa play golf later in the day.

Cathy Sanders started her golfing career today under the capable hands of Judy and Keith Bess

Welcome to the world of golf and all of its ups and downs, Cathy.

Checking out Tony Butler Golf Club

Played Tony Butler golf coarse this afternoon, hot and sunny. We had heard stories about the green there.

Here is how my golf game went today.

Started off on # 1 which is a 475 yard par 5 with water across the fairway about 280 yards out,
and a slight dog leg to the left. this leaves you about 200yards from the green. I played from the gold tees, which are about 50 yards closer to the green on this hole.

Hit my ball just short of the water, the fairways are hard as a rock and the ball rolls a long ways. When I reached the green in four,
I was greeted with a lightning fast green, which had just been sanded to make them even faster.

The cup was cut on top of a rise in the middle of the green, and I had an 8 foot putt up to the hole,
I hit the ball and was about 1 foot short of the cup, the ball came back down the rise and slid to the right
and stopped 10 feet from the hole. So far I am 2 feet farther away, my second putt went 6 feet past the hole,
I have now gained 2 feet with two puts. Two more puts and I was finished with # 1 hole.

# 2 is a par 3 about 110 yards from the gold tees, I hit the ball to the left of the geen, chipped back across the green and finished with a 5.

# 3 plays 420 yards from the gold tees, 3 shots later, I was in the sand trap on the right of the green,
took two to get out and across the green, three putts from there and that hole was history.

#4 is a straight hole 340 yard par 4. Hit the ball down the left side into some trees, chipped back on the fairway, reached the green in 4, took 3 putts
and walk away with a seven.

# 5 plays 260 to the green which I hit with my second shot, took 4 putts and off to # 6, a 125 yarder from the gold tees.
I hit the green with my tee shot abot 40 feet from the pin, it is a large flat green that slopes from the back to the front.
my first putt ended up 4 feet from the hole, with an uphill putt the ball was in the hole for a par.

# 7 is a straight hole, just about 300 yards to the green, hit the ball down the right side just staying out of the rough, as I walke along the rough to my ball
I found two good balls, a titliest and a Nike , looked just like new. Hit my second shot up the fairway and it rolled and rolled onto the green stopping
8 feet from the hole, took two putts from there to score a par.

#8 proved to be something else, after waiting for two Dudes in front of me look for their balls for 10 minutes, they waved me through.

Now you know that when you get waved through you always hit a poor shot off of the tee and I did, about 80 yards using a driver.
With the two Dudes looking onmy next shot hit a tree into an unplayable lie, two shots from there I am over the green,
a nice rolling green, chipped on and took 3 more putts to finish the hole.

let me see how I am doing so far, #1 4 on and 4 putts 8, sets the tone for the day. #2- 3 on two putts for a 5.
#3- 3 into the sand trap, two to get out and 3 putts for an 8. #4 4 shot on and tree putts for 7. # 5 two to get on and 4 putts for a 6.
#6 1 on two putts for 3. # 7 2 on two putts for a 4. # 8 6 on and three puts for a 9. sitting at a 50 with one to go, I am tired, hot and wish I had a beer.

Ever wonder why it is called a cup, it was named after the mug that the Scott’s drank thier spirits out of,
it would not sound good if you had to putt into a mug. Now you know!

Onto the last hole # 9…
Hit a great drive up the left side , the ball hit the cart path and bounced to about 240 yards from the tee, and stopped at the base of a tree,
took a drop and promptly hit the ball across the fairway into the rough, another drop there, next shot over the green.

This green has a hump in the middle and a small flat area about the size of a garbage can lid, and that is where the cup is.

Took the putt , up the hump, missed the hole, down the hump to the edge of the green
tried once more, up the hump and did not make it and back down to where I was standing, 20 feet from the cup.
the next putt just about made the top and rolled back down 12 feet from the hole, I called it a gimmie marked a 10 on the scorecard and went home.

My report back to the La Copa group is going to say ” don’t take my score as what you may expect for yours, but if you play on holes 1 to 9 you will find the very fast greens, frustrating.
Next time I will play holes 19 to 27 ( the old coarse) as the grees are not as demanding and not quite as fast. They are still fast.

Weekend Golf at the Cottonwood golf coarse

golfing scores from the last two days, Jan 24th and 25th.

Saterday there were two groups out from the LaCopa.
At ten am. The first foursome, Judy, Keith, Joyce and Sid teed off and the second foursome was made up of Arthur, Don, George and Richard.

The highlights from Saterday: the low score was turned in by Don with a 32 thanks to a chip in on #7 for a Birdie.
Arthur shot a 33 and the rest of the field were in between 36 and 43.

the Cottonwood Golf coarse is a 9 hole par 27 that runs just about north and south.
A lot of golfers frown on par three coarses as they are to easy, this is a not an easy par three setup.

The first four holes are straight tee to green playing 110 yards on #1, 150 on two,115 on three and 105 on # 4. You are facing just about south.
On most days the wind will be a factor. The water along the right side is not much of a factor.

Hole # 5 is 175 yards and the Canal runs across and along the fairway so you have to keep your ball to the right.
The canal has collected many balls over the season.

# 6 plays 170 yards (you are headed just about north) with the water on the right side and houses all down the left side.

#7 plays 95 yards and is the easyest hole on the coarse but still has the water on the right side.

#8 is a 200 yard hole with a pond on the right side that is in play for about 40 yards from the mens back tees,
the ladies tees are just at the end of the pond and is not much of a problem.

# 9 is a 125 yarder with no hazzards eccept a few palm trees on a small hill on the right.

Sunday

The same groups, played on Sunday morning. The scores were better, with Sid the low round (32) and Joyce right behind with a 33( great score)
George and Kieth with 34’s, Arhur shot 35 and Richard and Judy came in with 39 and 43.

The Sunday afternoon golf saw Kieth lead the way with a 32 parring the last five holes.
Doug hit a great shot on #7, within 2 feet of the hole and got his Birdie and a 38.
Richard and Gary shot a pair of 35’s

LaCopa Friday’s league golf

Only the Hardy golfers were out this morning, six in all. Which made up two teams.
We did not use the Dice as planned, due to the lack of players.

The weather was on the cold side with a nice crisp breeze, just enough to make you wish you had longjohns on.
The Leagues that were sheduled to play before our 10:am time did not even show up.

The two teams both tried to dominate for the low team score and in the end both teams were tied with 31’s.

Every one shot nice solid golf despite the wind and cold, George had the best round of the day with a 34, Sid and Richard were right behind with 35’s, Doug and Joyce shot 38 each and Don finished with a 39.
Richard was the only one who coud manage a 6 after he had to check to see if there was water in the ditch.
A few of the golfers have been trying out softer balls, made by Callaway Supersoft and the Wilson Duo. They are designed for senior golfers. In a few weeks they will be asked rate the balls. Thanks to Arthur for supplying the Callaway balls to test.

Wednesday golf from the La Copa inn

Every wednesday the group of golfers from the La Copa try to get in a round at a different golf coarse, This weeks choice was
Treasure Hills golf club.

The Coarse is well maintained and the general consences of the players was, they would go back and play it again.

the Fairways are wide and hilly with slopes to the sides in some places but allowes the players to let a little of the shaft out.

the greens are big, well maintained and fast, there are slopes and diferent levels which make a keen eye needed when putting.

Hole #1 is 356 yard par 4, straight out from the gold tees which we used today. #2 is a straight hole with water along the left
side and played 420 yard par 5.

#3 is a 110 yard par 3 which plays over the water

#4 is a par 4 with a dog leg to the right and water all along the left side, it is about 190 yards to the dogleg
and the another 160 to the green, the total lenght from the gold is 350 yards.

#5 is a 310 yard par 4 straight hole with a drainage ditch down the right side.
#6 a 320 yarder with a slight dogleg to the left.

#7 is 117 yard long par 3.
#8 is a long par 5, 445 yards, from the gold tees. it has a slight dogleg to the right.

#9 is 310 yard long straight out about 280 yards then a dogleg to the right about 40 yards to the green.

the fairways have trees along them and the sand traps on the coarse are placed to gaurd the greens and some along the faiways.spider at treasue hills

We Had 9 players from the LaCopa Inn so we played 3 one each team. Gerry Busch, Bill Stewart and Arthur Barnett were the first ones out.

Joyce Foy, Nancy Ruhlow and Sid Bina were team two, and bringing up the rear were the #3 team of George Coulson, Don Reisberg and Richard lampi.
The most interesting thing of the Day was the big Spider on the green, (pictured here) on # 4, before it was run over by George’s ball when he chipped it onto the green.

Best Team score was a 41 for team 3, Don, George and Richard,
Team 2, Nancy, Joyce and Sid with a 42.
Team #1 made up of Arthur, Bill and Gerry shot a 43. All very close scores.

Now if you took each players score and picked out the best poker hand this is what you would end up with,
Joyce with a straight, 4,5,6,7,8.
Sid hand would be a pair of 6’s and a pair of 5’s and a 9, if that counts for something.
Nancy would have 4, 7’s.
Bill would have three 8’s and a pair of sevens.
Don, Arthur and Richard would finish with 5 fives
George and Gerry would split the pot with 5 sixes.
I forgot to mention that Sid and Don were the only ones that could get thier score up to a 9.

Who showes up to golf

who showes up to golf

It seems, in golf that each golfer has two persona’s, one that is a good golfer and the other is

the evil twin.

On any given day, we do not know which person will show up when we go golfing. Todays golf at Cottonwood

George Coulson, Sid Bina, Don Reisberg and Richard Lampi, teed off # 1.

George and Sid hit to the left side if the green, Richard to the right. Don hit the green and was left with a 15 footer
which he drained for a Birdie, a great way to start the game.

On # 2 Don’s Evil twin showed up and for the next two holes, he hung around resulting in a 5 and a 6. Then he was gone and Don played

good golf for the rest of the round, adding another Birdie on #7, for a 31

George matched Don’s Birdie with one of his own on #7, with Sid and Richard with pars on that hole.

Sid shot steady golf all day and finished with a 33. Richard stayed out of the water for a change and shot a 32.

George’s evil twin kept on comming back to visit him which resulted in a score of 37.

Judy Bess was out in front of us and Arthur Barnett played with her from hole # 2.

As we were finishing our round Howard and Dianne Stewart were starting thier round, hope they had a good round.

The Highs and the lows of golf

Yesterday Don had climbed up to top of our golf world with a sizzling round. Today some of the sizzle kind of fizzled as he slipped to a 38 with the help of a 6 on # 8.

Today the sun was shining and very little wind which brought Gary Cook out today and played great steady golf, He mastered # 3 with a great Birdie and finished up the day with a 33, the low score today.

Richard kept up his love affair with the water on # 7 taking a 6 there and came in with 35 for the round.

George played steady golf up the middle of the fairway most of the time and capped it off with a Birdie on #7 . His score for the day was a 34.

All had a good time with some good natured fun.

Judy, Joyce and Sid were out in front and missed some of the fun.

We saw Bill and Jerry and Arthur comming up behind us but don’t know how they did for scores.
They did help in recovering and returning the phone that Richard lost. Another golfer at Cottonwood found the phone, Thanks to everyone who had a hand in the return.

Don Riesberg shoots a sizzling 30

Don on#7 jan 19thThe best round of golf by any of the LaCopa group this year, belongs to Don Riesberg with his accurate drives and having his putting down to a fine art, making puts from near and far.
Congrats to Don on his Blazing round.

Sid Bina got the only birdie of the day on # 7 when he drove to within 16″ of the hole. Just missed the Ace.

the birdie swing by Sid

He finished with a 34 along with George with a 34. Richard made everyone feel good when he shot a 37.
